The machine is 15 years old, the manufacturer left the market, or the component is discontinued. The official alternative: replace the entire assembly.

What we do

We measure or 3D-scan the existing part, rebuild it in CAD and reproduce it in a material suited to the load. The file stays yours — next time the order takes 48 hours.

The prototype is due before Friday's review

Investment decisions are not made on a render. You need an object that can be held, fitted and tested.

Injection moulding requires tooling. CNC requires programming and machine time. Both require a volume you do not have.

Additive, CNC or injection moulding: how to choose

Firg3D performs additive manufacturing only (FDM and resin). We do not offer CNC machining or injection moulding — they appear here because they are the alternatives you are comparing anyway, and we will tell you honestly when one of them is the right call.

The original latch had broken and was no longer available to buy. We scanned the fragments, rebuilt the geometry and printed the replacement in ASA, a material resistant to UV and temperature swings. Fitted on the vehicle, it works like the original.

A 7 mm gear with fine teeth that had to mesh exactly with the existing gear train. Reproduced by SLA resin printing, the only technology with the resolution required at this scale. It fits with no adjustment.

Components degraded by wear, reproduced from the originals through measurement and CAD rebuilding. Verification was done on a measuring mat, with tolerances validated before printing the batch.

There was no starting file — only photographs. We modelled everything in CAD, including the railing, the decks and the hull lettering, then printed the model in multiple colours.

20 active systems mean an urgent order does not wait for the only machine to free up, and a breakdown does not rewrite your delivery date. For oversized parts we run an Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga, with a build volume of 800 × 800 × 1000 mm.

08 — Costs

How the price of a part is calculated

We do not work with a flat hourly rate. The price follows from four variables, and the quote breaks down all of them.

Material consumed

Part volume, infill density and the support material the geometry requires.

FACTOR 02

Machine time

Layer height, the speed the material allows and how many parts fit on the build plate.

Post-processing

Support removal, sanding, tapping, metal inserts, engraving, painting.

Quantity

Above 20 pieces the unit price steps down, and for recurring orders we agree a fixed rate.

CAD design is quoted separately, from 100 RON depending on complexity — and only if you do not already have the file. If you do, there is nothing extra to pay.

11 — Frequently asked questions

What technical departments ask us most

01How much does 3D printing a technical part cost?

Pricing follows material volume consumed, machine time, the post-processing required and quantity. We do not use a flat hourly rate, because a thin-walled part and a solid one consume completely differently.

Send the file or a photo with dimensions and you get a firm quote within 24 working hours, with no obligation. We quote in RON and invoice as a Romanian entity.

02Which file formats do you accept?

.STEP and .STP for parametric geometry, .STL, .OBJ and .3MF for meshes, plus .DWG for technical drawings. For multiple items, send a .ZIP archive.

If you have no file at all, a photo with the main dimensions is enough to start.

03What tolerances can you hold?

For FDM, the usual tolerance is ±0.2 mm or ±0.2% of the dimension, whichever is greater. With SLA resin we reach ±0.05 mm on small parts.

If you have critical dimensions, mark them on the drawing — we handle those separately, with optimised orientation and individual inspection.

04What is the maximum part size?

We print up to 800 × 800 × 1000 mm in one piece, on our large-format system. Larger parts are made in sections with joints designed for assembly and structural bonding.

05Do you handle series production?

Yes. The line of 20 active systems supports runs of 20–500 pieces, with dimensional inspection on every part. For recurring orders we agree a fixed rate and scheduled deliveries, with buffer stock held at our facility.

06What happens to our files and intellectual property?

The files remain your property. We do not reuse them, sell them or share them. We sign a non-disclosure agreement before you send documentation, if the project calls for it.

Models we design ourselves are delivered to you in editable format, together with the parts.

07Do you invoice, and do you offer payment terms?

Yes. We are a Romanian company and issue a standard fiscal invoice in RON, with VAT handled locally — no cross-border paperwork, no customs. For recurring work we agree payment terms after a first completed order.

08When does additive manufacturing NOT make sense?

At high volumes with simple geometry, injection moulding becomes cheaper per unit. For metal parts under heavy load, or tolerances below 0.05 mm, CNC machining is the right choice.

09Do you work outside Bucharest?

Yes. We ship by courier anywhere in Romania, and the whole flow — from sending the file to quote and confirmation — runs online, in English. Collection from our facility remains an option for clients in Bucharest.
